3 Million Trees Needed to Offset US Presedential Race

The epic race between US presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain has generated an epic carbon footprint. To balance the CO2 pollution, approximately 18 square miles of new trees would need to be planted. Altius Information Technologies has offset 100% of their greenhouse gas emissions to be certified carbon neutral by Standard Carbon.  Environmentally friendly business activities and processes already practiced by Altius IT staff helped Altius IT reach its goal of becoming 100% carbon neutral. “As an IT security audit and assessment firm, we work very closely with client organizations and understand that we have a responsibility to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible,” explains Altius IT President Jim Kelton.

Campaigns offered a chance to put their money where their mouth is, take leadership, and fight global warming through Carbon Offsets Standard Carbon LLC has launched a program for federal election campaigns to track and eliminate their contribution to climate change by purchasing carbon offsets through the Chicago Climate Exchange. To be certified Carbon Neutral, each candidate must sign a pledge and report its carbon footprint estimate to Standard Carbon for offsetting. The program extends access to the same carbon offsets purchased by the “Green the Capitol” initiative to make official US House business carbon neutral.
