Campaign Takes Direct Action to Fight Climate Change

Seattle, WA—Naples, FL November, 2007— The Campaign for Linda McDonald has taken action to fight climate change by offsetting the greenhouse gas emissions from its election activities. By purchasing 20,000 lbs of CO2 gas offsets from Standard Carbon LLC, The Campaign for Linda McDonald has balanced the climate change pollution from over 1,000 gallons of gasoline fuel—equal to taking two cars off the road for a full year

Carbon offsets are a way for people to support new technologies and business practices that reduce greenhouse gasses on their behalf. The money is spent to fund environmental projects that reduce carbon dioxide pollution such as renewable energy, clean agriculture, and industrial efficiency.

Since Al Gore’s now famous documentary Inconvenient Truth, balancing carbon dioxide has become the gold standard of environmental leadership. According to many scientists the threat of climate change may be dire, resulting in more severe storms, rising sea levels, loss of precious food stocks and habitat for threatened species. Rising temperatures have already changed the landscape in places like Montana’s Glacier National Park where since 1910 only 27 of the park’s 150 original glaciers remain.

The Campaign for Linda McDonald has made climate change both a personal and political commitment. “When you decide to run for office, you commit to stand up for what you believe in, and that means taking personal action first. Climate change depends upon leadership, because cleaning up the air is a non-partisan decision. Action comes from strong willingness for personal responsibility, not a campaign promise alone.” Said Brendan Woodward, President of Standard Carbon LLC, a national provider of carbon offset credits.

Greenhouse gas offsetting is an effective way for busy politicians to reduce their carbon footprint—the amount of green house gas released into the atmosphere each year—beyond what is practical through energy conservation and low emissions travel. Political Campaigns send thousands of pieces of mail, and are responsible for thousands of miles of official and volunteer travel.

The Linda McDonald campaign has purchased carbon offsets traded on the Chicago Climate Exchange. The Chicago Climate Exchange is the only certified registry market in the U.S. for the trading of carbon offsets. The exchange is audited by the National Association of Securities Dealers to insure that every exchange taking place is legitimate.

Standard Carbon LLC is a leader in the marketplace for carbon offsets to fight climate change offering certification for individuals, businesses, events, and political campaigns to become carbon neutral. Greenhouse gasses can be balanced for less than one penny for every mile of travel—making it simple and affordable for individuals and organizations to “go green.” As an active member of the prestigious Chicago Climate Exchange, Standard Carbon has multiple offset projects in the development stage, including renewable energy, methane capture, and clean agriculture.
